There has always been a great deal of controversy regarding line calls in professional
tennis, even when tennis greats like John McEnroe were playing with wooden rackets.
However, as the speed of the sport has quickened, it has become increasingly
difficult to make accurate line calls.
SmartLines is an automated line-calling system which can be used in sports such as Tennis
or Volleyball to determine whether a ball that landed near a boundary line was really IN
or OUT. The patent pending SmartLines technology allows sensors to be embedded unobtrusively
under most popular court surfaces. Unlike Cyclops and Hawkeye, which use optics to track the
ball, SmartLines can work indoors and outdoors independent of lighting conditions,
never needs to be re-calibrated and can makes instant line calls with an accuracy of several
millimeters.
SmartLines is affordable and simple enough to be used in clubs, colleges, and on private
courts, while being accurate enough to be used in professional tournaments. We are currently
in the process of preparing a court for evaluation by the ITF (International
Tennis Federation) for accuracy and reliability.
